Four Steps to Know What You Want

“Through some strange and powerful principle of “mental chemistry” which she has never divulged, Nature wraps up in the impulse of strong desire “that something” which recognizes no such word as impossible, and accepts no such reality as failure.”

Napoleon Hill,  Think and Grow Rich, 1937

You want to sizzle with life! You want to celebrate each day, each moment fully, richly, abundantly. You don’t want to miss out on anything- you want to really live!

How exciting!

But how do you actually get there from here- from the stressful, mundane, distracted, ordinary, small, day-to-day routines that you’ve been living?

It all starts when you know what you really want.

What will make you feel the way you want to feel in life? Is it radiant health, meaningful work, better relationships with loved ones, personal or spiritual growth?

Once you’ve figured out the general direction, the next step is to have specific, concrete goals that will lead you in that direction. Otherwise how will you know what action to take?

Each person will have a unique direction with their own specific goals. Nobody can do the work of figuring it out for you, but as your coach, I can help you find clarity, and continue to give support as you take action to create your new reality.

If you think it might be helpful to talk things out with someone, please get in touch with me and let’s schedule a a conversation!

Four Steps to Know What You Want:

In the meantime, here’s a four-step plan to get you started right away to figure out what you really want. Set aside about an hour, and grab some paper and a writing implement of your choice.

1. Dream big

Throw the net wide! Make lists or mind maps of all the things that you enjoy, everything you’re good at, all the things you’ve done that you feel good about. What are other people doing that excites or inspires you? What ideas intrigue you? What’s important to you? What else? Nothing is too big or too small to notice.

Ask yourself- If I could do anything in the world, what would I love to be doing? Brainstorm as many ideas as you can come up with.

2. Explore deeper

Once you have some ideas about what you’d love to create or be doing, pick some to explore further. Choose the  scariest one, the most fun one, the easiest one, the hardest one, and for each, describe what it would be like to live that life. What would you love about it, what impact would you have on the people around you and the world, in what ways is this the perfect thing for you?

3. Tune into your body.

As you write your answers, notice and jot down how your body feels for each scenario- does it feel anxious, calm, excited, blah, does it make you hum, sing, dance, giggle with delight?

Trust the wisdom of your body. How do you want to feel- not just when you attain your goal, but every step along the way to create it? What feels right and good to you? Your path will be unique to you. No one else can know what s right for you, but your body will never lie.

4. Claim it

Choose your path. Describe your goals clearly and concisely. Be specific. Claim your path with conviction, with strong desire, with delight, with a deep longing and commitment. Know that you will manifest either this or something better. Nature will support your strong desire.
